A 53-year-old man was trapped by a building when the scaffolding on a two-storey home he was working in collapsed.

The worker fell three metres and was crushed by bricks and sustained injuries to his shoulder and lower limbs.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 9:05am and landed in a Marsden Park clearing close to the scene of the incident. CareFlight’s clinical team made their way to the building where emergency services personnel from Fire and Rescue NSW were securing the construction site and extricating the patient. NSW Ambulance paramedics were also on site.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the patient. They conducted an ultrasound to assess his injuries and administered pain relief while taking spinal precautions.

The man was taken by road with NSW Ambulance to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team.

A second man was also caught in the building collapse and self-extricated with minor injuries.
