Three-Day-Old Newborn Safely Transferred to Sydney for Urgent Specialist Care
17/09/2026 – NewsRecently, CareFlight supported the transfer of a newborn baby, only three days old, suffering from a serious medical condition and requiring urgent care in Sydney within 72 hours.
Engaged by Europ Assistance (Redion), the complex mission brought together CareFlight’s air ambulance capability, a highly trained CareFlight critical care nurse and a specialist neonatal team from New Caledonia.
Through close coordination between CareFlight, Europ Assistance (Redion) and the New Caledonian neonatal team, the baby was safely transported onboard our dedicated Air Ambulance jet to Westmead Children’s Hospital for the specialist care required. Recognising the unique clinical requirements of such a young patient, our teams worked collaboratively to develop an approach that put the right clinical expertise around the patient throughout the transfer.
The mission demonstrates what can be achieved when aeromedical expertise, clinical capability and strong international partnerships come together around the needs of a patient. CareFlight is grateful for the trust our partners such as Europ Assist (Redion) place in us, which is highlighted in the feedback shared post- mission:
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire CareFlight team for their flexibility, responsiveness and willingness to step outside the usual framework for the benefit of this child. This mission is a great illustration of the trust we place in one another and of what can be achieved through strong partnerships and shared commitment to patient care.”
