A young girl and two adults escaped with minor injuries from a car crash which left a man seriously injured on the Stuart Highway 40km south of Pine Creek today.
Police blocked the highway to allow Darwin’s CareFlight rescue helicopter to land on the highway.
Emergency services rushed to the scene to find that four people, including a six-year-old girl, were travelling in the car which rolled on the highway near Fergusson River about 230km south of Darwin.
A nurse from Pine Creek Health Clinic and St John paramedics from Katherine arrived to start treatment following the alert at 2.30pm.
The CareFlight doctor and nurse worked with the clinic and ambulance teams to stabilise a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, who was left semi-conscious suffering head and arm injuries.
The man was flown on the CareFlight rescue helicopter to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remained in a serious but stable condition on arrival shortly after 6pm.
The six-year-old girl and two other adults were taken by St John paramedics to Katherine Hospital for assessment and treatment.
Police were investigating to determine the cause of the single vehicle crash.
