WESTMEAD RAPID RESPONSE RESCUE HELICOPTER

CareFlight’s Sydney based Rapid Response Rescue Helicopter Service operates from the grounds of Westmead Hospital. The service flies specialist emergency doctors and paramedics directly to the scene of major trauma incidents. This means patients receive a hospital level of care in those critical early moments after a serious injury.

This service evolved from a clinical trial which sought to determine whether on-scene physician intervention for head-injured patients results in better long-term outcomes. Read more about CareFlight’s Head Injury Research.

TOP END AIR AMBULANCE SERVICES

CareFlight provides the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government. As part of the service, we operate a fleet of King Air 200 aeroplanes based in Darwin and Gove. These air ambulances fly around 2,000 missions a year, reaching more than 30 remote communities. They often cover many hundreds of kilometres during a single mission.

Missions range from routine transfers between clinics and hospitals to life-threatening emergencies.

The aircraft are crewed by pilot and nurse teams and, should the patient need a higher level of care, specialist retrieval doctors.

TOP END RESCUE HELICOPTER

CareFlight introduced the Agusta Westland 139 helicopter as a critical lifeline complementing our turbo-prop air ambulances. The CareFlight helicopter is funded with the support of the local community and local business and provides a fast, long range rescue service to otherwise inaccessible areas throughout the Top End and offshore.

PAEDIATRIC & NEWBORN

CareFlight’s years of experience in caring for ill and injured children and babies allow our teams to undertake the most complex medical emergency and rescue missions. Aircraft are equipped for these missions with specialised newborn and paediatric equipment.

In the Top End, we provide a 24 hour aeromedical neonatal and paediatric care and transport service. This is an integral part of the Top End medical Retrieval Service operated by CareFlight on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.

MEDI-JETS

Our medical teams use medically configured jets to transfer patients between states, to specialist hospitals in major cities across Australia. They also use medi-jets to transport seriously ill and injured Australians home from South East Asia, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific. Provided by CareFlight International Air Ambulance, medi-jets can be airborne within two hours of tasking.

NSW AMBULANCE

In addition to supporting our own services, CareFlight doctors work with NSW Ambulance retrieval teams from 24 hour bases located at Bankstown Airport and Orange.  They travel all over the state on NSW Ambulance helicopters, aeroplanes and road ambulances, caring for over 1,000 patients every year.
